GLENDALE, Ky. -- Members with the Glendale Fire Department, along with the family of a fallen firefighter, are thanking the community for their support.
25-year-old Jonathan French was killed and his mother Lisa, also a firefighter, injured when a semi hit their fire engine as they battled a car fire along Interstate-65 last Wednesday.
Fire Chief Richie Peters, who is Jonathan's uncle, says a campaign called "Shut It Down" could save lives, by closing a roadway instead of just setting up cones.
Peters says Lisa is improving, but has a long road of recovery ahead.
Peters says he expects the fire department to be back online in about two weeks.
A fund has been set up to help the family, at West Point Bank. It's called French Family Benefit Fund.
